Both Asian manufacturers have now announced 8-megapixel camera phones with the Samsung i8510 just announced during the week-end.
Samsung is looking to take the camera battle off the consumer electronics field and into the mobile phone segment as it is locked in a battle for the happy snappers with its main rival, Sony Ericsson.

Both the i8510 and the C905 use the same camera technology although Samsung seems to have the edge when it comes to other features.
Apart from the Symbian S60 operating system which powers it, the i8510 comes with WiFi and HSDPA connectivity plus an inbuilt GPS; then there's a huge 2.8-inch screen capable of displaying 16 million colours, support for DiVX and up to 16GB storage.
The onboard video camera will be able to record at 120FPS in VGA resolution and will be backed by a dedicated 3D graphics chip and TV Out option.
Other specs include a 1200mAH battery, Dolby Mobile, a Xenon Flash and support for the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) framework.
This slide phone, whose photos were published by Hungarian website, Mobile-review.com, is said to come with an optical mouse like the one on the I780 or the I900.
